R. Maclean Smith has been a practicing board certified allergist in Sioux Falls for more than 30 years. Dr. Smith obtained his BA from the University of Iowa, an M.S. in microbiology from the University of Missouri, and an M.S. in preventative medicine and community health from the University of Iowa. He received his M.D. from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, and residency training in internal medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He completed his fellowship training in allergy-immunology at the University of Iowa. He is a second generation allergist as his mother was one of his professors at the University of Iowa. He has continued his family’s teaching tradition while practicing clinical allergy-immunology in South Dakota.
Dr. Smith is board certified in internal medicine and adult and pediatric allergy-immunology. He is a clinical professor of internal medicine and division chief of allergy-immunology at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He has enjoyed teaching medical students, as well as family practice, internal medicine, pediatric and transitional residents. He is involved in teaching the SDSU nurse practitioner students. Dr. Smith has received the Sioux Falls family practice residency and internal medicine residency clinical faculty teaching award, that AOA medical student teaching award, as well as the SDSU college of nursing distinguished service award.
